Training and Development refers to programs designed to help improve processes and performance of both the individual employees and the organization as a whole. Training & Development are terms often used together, but are very different in the approach taken.
In general, training programs have very specific goals for a particular topic and audience. It may be learning how to operate a specific piece of equipment, or training on processes and procedures in your organization, or learning how to apply certain rules to your organizations specific situations. Trainings are an important part of your overall strategy of growth, process improvement, and your attraction and retention strategy.
On the other hand, development programs concentrate on broader skills that can be applied to a variety of situations, such as decision making, leadership skills, goal setting and communication skills. Development programs center on enriching broader skills used in numerous situations. Many organizations provide development programs not only for professional growth, but for personal growth of their employees as well.
Most employees have some weaknesses in their workplace skills and human relations skills. A training program allows you to overcome those weaknesses by strengthening those skills of each employee. A development program strengthens all employee’s skills allowing the organization to become a smarter workplace, helping your organization grow!
