The company was founded in 1983 as a spin-off from the original Hickok & Boardman Company founded in 1821. Initially our company focused on meeting the life insurance needs of individuals but as time passed, the principals of our firm recognized a growing demand for expertise in the area of individual financial planning and employee benefits. The growth of our benefits practice prompted us to adopt and promote the trade name of Hickok & Boardman Group Benefits. Our practice grew rapidly and our customers demanded broader capabilities to support their human capital management initiatives. Our expansion to a more comprehensive HR services company necessitated a name change to better define who we are and what we do, hence we are now Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence.

Although we continually invest in our firm’s infrastructure in order to meet the varying needs of our clients, it is the people of our organization that sets our firm apart from our competitors. The level of commitment and character of our people is most evident in looking at the track record our company has with community service involvement. In addition to the countless hours our people volunteer serving on the boards of non-profit organizations, coaching youth sports and various other activities, we are very proud of the recognition we have received over the past ten years from the United Way of Chittenden County. Since 2003, the Hickok & Boardman Network of Companies has received twenty recognitions which include the Campaign of the Year, Affinity Award, President’s Award, Hometown Hero Award, and Top Ten Award. The highest honor, Campaign of the Year, was awarded to our company in 2005 and again in 2012.
In addition to our United Way acknowledgments, our company was awarded 5th place as the Best Places to Work in Vermont in the Small/Medium sized companies (15-149 employees) division in 2012 and was recognized again as such in 2014 and 2015. Companies from across the state enter a two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Vermont. The first part of that process consists of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, and demographics and the second part consisted is an employee survey that measures the employee experience within that particular workplace. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings.
